This year's derby will be held on January 23, 2010. Derby Weigh In: January 22, 2010 Suffield Middle School Here are the rules! Pinewood Derby Rules All cars must pass inspection to qualify for the race. The inspection points are as follows: a. The car must have been made during the current year. b. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches. c. Width between the wheels 1 3/4 inch d. Bottom clearance between car and track 3/8 inch e. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches. f. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5.00 ounces. g. Axles, wheels, and body wood shall be as provided in the kit. h. The wheels must be located using the slots provided for the axels. (no extending the wheel base) i. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited. j. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs. k. Any details added must be within length, width, and weight limits. l. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices. m. No loose materials of any kind (such as lead shots) are allowed in the car. All cars will be inspected the night before the race. The inspection committee has the right to disqualify those cars that do not meet the above specifications.
